#Purpose How do we know?

Purpose! How do we know? Some people are born knowing their purpose, some people find their way into it. Many people believe they know their purpose, however, they find out later what they believed was was not really it at all. Some people succeed early on. Others become an overnight success after 20 years. Some people are known for their purpose and others make it known. Some are recognized world wide. But many never receive any recognition. So many people are lost trying to find their way into a purpose. The purpose is never lost within them. Unless discernment is withheld within themselves. Many times life itself redirects your purpose when you feel that you should be where anyone else is as opposed to that your purpose was interfered with by another.
Creation. A perfect design. We see others who live what seems to be a flawless life and hold no grace. We judge others who seem to be living an imperfect reckless life. But all the time intertwining a purpose-filled life. It is desirable to be recognized and validated. As fame is not evil; nor is money. But the love of this. As the Lord said to Abraham that ' you will be famous amongst all the nations.' As the Lord also said to David ' you will have vast blessings of worldly riches.' And of course as Jesus spoke the words, ' it is the love of money that is the root of all evil.' There are many things that alter our life's path that seem to postpone our purpose, but simply delay the succeeding and recognition of it. So many issues in life that redirect and branch off our purpose to succeed alongside someone, before someone and most importantly after someone who has a related quite similar purpose. The latter of these three is when we must find joy for those who have a successful revealed purpose before yours comes to fruition. Yet you are always serving it. It is very difficult on this day and age to know you have been gifted and blessed in a specific field, craft, career and through suffering and struggles have seen others who are not truly serving the Lord's purpose, but their own becomes successful, creating doubt and confusion of why give the gift and blessings that can not be fulfilled for certain individuals. Never the less the one strength of belief that you are still fulfilling God's purpose for yourself and for others must not be forgotten. But we do need others to motivate and validate, not success, but hope with an individual to encourage through love. And though the grandioso outcome of a worldwide successful career can be a wonderful feeling, simply asking how someone is doing, giving a nod, a smile, can do more for another's life than we ever could possibly know or imagine. In today's world, daily, we advertise ourselves. In the 80's I remember that a band that became commercially successful was considered a sell out. However now, if you are commercially successful, you are followed, liked  and revered amongst all others. And it is commonly stated that you did it all on your own. People name dropping, wanting shout outs , begging a follow back from a now famous person is the new absolute. But this purpose does not reach absolution. It's often stated in social media a person can be whomever they want to. Of course this is true; but sometimes, just sometimes, a person is being who they believe they should be. When you look at yourself in the mirror, do you truly believe you are living God's purpose for yourself? There are so many gifted individuals. Some exploit and take advantage of their gifts, a slap in the face to those who are gifted and blessed who have been wrongly imprisoned, been on the receiving end of horrible brutality, who have lived a lifetime of horrible illness, yet they never complain or feel pity. They never differ blame, they still believe, some have even lost their gifts for a short period of time or truly were never able to fulfill their purpose because they lost their lives, but the question remains of the fact did they serve their purpose? You can have 70 million people follow you on instagram and not change one person's life for the better. A purpose is not a reflection of oneself, how you use it is a respectful reflection of God. I am now 41 years old. Many know my sufferings, but I speak not in detail about them. Most of the time it is too painful. But it is not another's burden to behold. We expect and we demand with ill temperament using anger to reprimand. So again I ask what is purpose? Blessed are those who have the discernment to know what their purpose is. But we must think and feel and seek this out. We must help others to seek this out. It is not our purpose to understand another person's way. It is our purpose to respect. But we must not stand by and allow others to be wicked. We must not be right fighters, but righteous fighters. In reference to our presidential race, a God given purpose can not be held in contempt. We can not disrespect and degrade and/or demonize another to succeed and then speak as if this is God's purpose for oneself. I have often stated our words and our actions are only as good as the heart behind them. We are all sinners. As the Lord sayeth your sins will find you out. A true purpose allows you to recognize this. To carry love in our heart. As all of us are given a purpose, we should be living with one love. One heart. And one purpose. To serve the Lord's collective purpose for all. Without doubt there is no reason for faith. Without question you can not find the answer. And without the Lord, you can serve no purpose but that what you believe is for yourself. A purpose driven life is a fulfilled life. Those who have a greater voice than others. To set an example by serving their purpose righteously. Who must not take for granted as I've always said many are suffering, but very few empathize. Meaning to suffer along with. Your purpose is for you and you alone to know. But it is got you to share to value the life that was given to each and everyone of us and the life that was sacrificed to give us this opportunity. You can not fulfill your purpose alone. As alone, we did nothing to receive the gifts and blessings to fulfill a purpose. But it is our job and duty and of course responsibility to fulfill our purpose by coming together with in our struggles as without these we could not understand as the Lord sayeth I will suffer you as you will learn more through your sufferings . When we understand that we will never reach perfection, that is when we will finally be perfect.  In simple talk; purpose is no joke. It is not a game. It is a living, breathing life. The more we know about each other, the easier it is to fulfill our purpose. We complicate human beings. As human beings complicated themselves. We understand the purpose of a tree, of water, of air. This was not always the case. Within ourselves and reach other to understand what I call a purpose driven heart. So there question is. What is purpose? I reiterate what is  your purpose. Just as a tree, water and air, a true purpose does not take life, but gives it. Do not hold yourself or others in bondage as nothing happens out of God's will. Realizing that purpose is not a chance realization, but a chosen revelation. And as my health, as my suffering is quite prevalent, specifically right now this is my purpose that I was led to fulfill as of this moment. Use the tools that have been given to you. To be righteous and absolute in your purpose. Take care my friends

Joshua Awakens!

Our leader, founder, and visionary, Joshua Jet Vaughan has been in a coma for almost three weeks. We are over joyed to announce that he has awoken from his coma and is talking.  We were able to speak with him for just a few seconds this morning and hearing his voice was soothing to all of us.  We've been worried and praying and sick with anxiety that we could lose the man that we all know and love and admire, and depend on to lead us down a life of righteousness.  Please send well wishes via the comments section, our email, and or Twitter via #GetWellJoshua.  We have come so close to losing him, we must fight to stand by his side through his every day in this life.  That is our mission and that is our purpose.  Thank you so much for all of your love and support.

Joshua's Joys

Our leader and founder has been in the hospital in a coma for almost two weeks.  We have been in contact with his wife, Anna Bella, and we hope and pray and believe that he will wake soon.  Joshua is needed and loved by all, and he is missed dearly here by the GSET team.

His wife Anna Bella had recorded this song for Joshua on her smartphone one day, because she would sing it to him on particularly rough days to bring him peace.  She wanted to record it for him, so that even at times when she had to leave his side, he would have a piece of her with him at all times, and will play it for him, even as he is not conscious.

Our love to Joshua and Anna, and Joshua please wake up and get better soon. We love you and need you.

One Credo, One Life, One Love, One Voice

Joshua's Joys/ Tom Wright/ GHS Strings/Andy

Though we have not begun to scratch the surface of Joshua's Journey; most of his stories have been of severe tragedy and even those that have not been spoken of are beyond disbelief. As we have stated earlier, it is very difficult to keep in order his stories, because they are so many and so complex.


As Joshua graduated from high school early, he had received his doctorate in medicine at the age of 22. At the age of 21, he had picked up the guitar. Though he had practiced shortly in the field of medicine, he knew that his calling was music. It was not shortly after this that he became severely ill affecting his opportunities.  At the age of 22, Joshua had formed a band.  After one month of playing, submitted a song to a major record label. Just one. Within two weeks, he had gotten a reply. It was Atlantic Records.

Through a series of events, the record deal did not come to be. At the same time a wonderful company had offered Joshua an endorsement deal. GHS Strings. It was initially a three year contract at 70% off that eventually lasted for over a decade at 100% off all merchandise from GHS Strings and their sister company Rock Tron. A wonderful company who has promised that when he has recovered, his endorsement will be back in full effect. He's always considered them friends and family. And would play no other string.

Throughout the years, opportunity kept knocking. The music industry had changed quite dramatically as companies were buying out other companies; merging etc. The days of unsolicited material were over. You had to know someone to be someone.  It's like the old adage you can't get a job unless you have experience, but the job you're applying for would give you the experience. That is one of the reasons that Joshua started his own record company GTRecords; where he and his wife have control over such things as this.  Not with just a record deal, but with production, helping with the creative process, management, distribution, bookings. When you're in the music industry it all becomes very simple, but until you get there it is an excruciating process. Because of Joshua's illness, he did not do much recording.  He toured quite often.  Through some of his treatments, he'd have to see a doctor weekly.  One day Joshua was at home and he received a phone call from Tom Wright.  Some people know Tom Wright as being an amazing photographer, chronicling amazing photos of incredible musical bands.  How Tom came to be THE Tom Wright is that he grew up with the band The Who. He offered to be their manager and history was made; for that is what had happened.  Tom had heard of Joshua through word of mouth.  When Joshua would record, he preferred to go to his own studio that he had built throughout the years; a small town, so he could be alone and free from distraction.  Can you call this serendipitous? Tom Wright lived not just several miles from Joshua's studio, but had no idea.

It all started like this, during the summer break from college, a famous world renowned bar/restaurant with an incredible amount of other great enjoyments called Brownwood Acres, was reopened.  People such as Paul Newman, Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra would come and sing at this restaurant. 15 years or so earlier there was an actress named Christine Laudi who was a dancer at this club.  The dancers were called the Brownwood Honeybees. When the new renters had come in, knowing the history of this amazing place, Joshua was immediately asked to form a band and was asked to call it the Brownwood Killer Bees.  Within 2 weeks, as Joshua can play almost every instrument, taught this band how to play a 4 hour set of songs. This is the start of the word of mouth.

 Back to Tom Wright. Joshua, still being ill, was doing a little better. Though he was still having trouble with his medical treatment, Tom had called Joshua one day and they had a long conversation.  Joshua stated that Tom had extreme excitement in his voice.  Tom simply asked Joshua to do a recording.  He wanted it on a tape.  Yes a simple tape recorder.  As Joshua's favorite PA system to use for practice, called a Fender Passport, Joshua wracked out 7 or 8 tunes, some acoustic, some electric, some covers, some originals.  He sent it to Tom.  Tom called Joshua back three days later. The excitement was incredible.  Tom told Joshua that he had never heard anything like him.  He said "You need to be heard, and to be honest this will finally get me back to what I'm supposed to be doing, which is managing."

He explained to Joshua why he wanted the recording on a tape, as he was old school; because there could be no overdubbing or second takes. After that it was easy.  Tom offered to do all the work, but  explained that his mother was ailing.  So Joshua called up Epic Records, simply said Tom's name, which Joshua had already had dealings with Epic and had already turned down two record deal offers, but obviously it would not hurt matters to have Tom Wright in your corner. Joshua had flown down to Epic's New York headquarters and performed in one of the many A&R rep's offices.  He simply had a Peavey Delta Blues with a 15" speaker, a tube screamer, and his Fender strat, strings 13-58.  They asked if he could do a small demo with just three songs for legal purposes. Because of Joshua's illness, he had to fly back to where his doctor was.  He had left his equipment at Epic. As he went back into the doctor, he became very ill again.  A multitude of treatment, a multitude of medication.

When Joshua had first submitted to a record company, he had simply bought a book called SongWriters Market.  One of the biggest things he had learned was not to make excuses. A&R reps feel quite degraded when this is done.  Most believe they can hear the talent and gifts and to make excuses for your sound is irrelevant.  Joshua had read a book by Eric Clapton, who by this time he had met several times over and had played alongside.  Eric said, " I do not want a boy's voice, I do not want to hear a boy's voice, I wanted a man's voice." Explaining about all of the horrible recording sessions and how awful he was, yet thought he was incredible.  At this time, Joshua had only had a couple of amps and guitars. His best ones were left back at Epic/Sony Records. So he was left to use horrible equipment, plugged directly into the computer, doing all the instruments, going through chemo and on a lot of medication, this took away from his singing, of course, music ability in general. But, they already heard him live, so, he spit it all out, one take, then overdubbed the accompanying music; again, which he played all instruments himself.

As Joshua has stated before, so many opportunities have come and gone because of illness, that nobody has truly heard what he sounds like.  But this story is about the people along the way.

Shortly after Tom's mother became ill, so did Tom.  Joshua often feels disappointed as he has told us several times, what bothers him the most is that he could not give Tom the opportunity that Tom had so generously and unselfishly given him.  But this is one of the examples of who you touch in your life.  Of who remembers you.  Who knows of you.  But more importantly, what do they remember?  And what do they know about you?  There are always going to be people who have nothing good to say about anything or anybody.  Those people don't matter.  There will always be the Tom Wrights and the GHS strings. Many times people give false hope. Sometimes because they want to hurt, sometimes it's because they want to be something so badly for themselves and for someone else, they believe if they speak it they will will it to happen leaving people to be disappointed.  In life, you can be sure of something about lying, in a personal conversation the more information that people offer up about something that is not asked, it's more than likely a lie or an embellishment. And interestingly enough, it seems as if the more people know about something, especially a lie, that somehow it becomes the truth.

Many things that Joshua has taught us.  As of now, Joshua's the sickest that he's ever been.  All of us here at the GSET team have no idea why this is happening.  What seemed to be a simple fix within his body has now become so complex.  He has mentioned often; what if he would have taken one of those record deals, would his life be worth saving?  Or at least would he be getting proper medical treatment?  If you subscribe to "Nothing happens out of God's will." then there must be a reason.   Serendipitous.   Simply fate. Joshua has stated several times before, that at 34 it was finally his time to shine.  Though it has not come to pass, the last time Joshua was ill for three and a half years, when he had gotten better, he was thankful.  If God is listening, we ask for Joshua's healing. There are many people who have touched his life, but we believe even more in the people's lives that he has touched for the better.  Though there are so many tragedies yet to be revealed, and so many joys, living them, living through them, is completely different than seeing or hearing about them.  Something that Joshua had wanted to state before he was in the hospital, we only received part of it, but we believe it would be fitting to put out there.

When Joshua was 34, at that time he had met a young lady that was only 20, now his wife Anna Bella.  Though they have went through horrible tragedies together, the word that is being emphasized here is together.  Starting out in the purest love, how damaging sickness can be, real sickness. He said it seems as if when there's more love to be had, the more it can be taken away.  Desperation, frustration, confusion, ensues, but it will come to pass. Sometimes you shut yourself down so you can start from scratch and build yourself back up. Through all their troubles, we have never seen a truer love than that of Joshua and Anna's.  Through thick and thin, good and bad, they stayed by each other's side. Before Joshua went into the hospital, this is the last statement that was sent to us: In every situation in life, from the worst, to the best. from the smallest to the biggest, when you can only see yourself experiencing all of these things with only one person, and without that person there would be no joy to be had, then my friends, you have found true love. And that is Joshua and his wife Andy.

Joshua's Joys

A song that Joshua had recorded for his new album. The song is called Maleguena. He was inspired by the late Roy Clark's version. Part of the song is done accoustically by himself, as he would do in concert.  The rest of the song is done through an electric guitar as the band kicks is. Adding in background singers.  The interesting part of all of this is that it was all done in one take, with no overdubbing.  As Joshua and his band do their best to record as if they were playing live.  So that nothing needs to be added or taken away when seen in concert. It will be quite a treat to hear as we at the GSET team just recieved a copy of his double disc cd.  Here's Roy Clark's version, though just one of many as he has played them in many different ways on many different guitars. Please listen to the brilliance of Roy Clark, one of the greatest guitarists ever as he is performing on the tv show The Odd Couple.

We at the GSET team feel we must take the time to give notice to our founder Joshua Jet Vaughan. As we have stated before, the mission of this page, we would like to explain something about Joshua in more detail. First, we must remember that this man is very ill, as he is not ashamed to state the fact that it affects him mentally, emotionally, spiritually and of course, physically. With that being said, Joshua is an example.  A righteous example.  Whether you are suffering or not, we all have a variety of moods. Our ups and downs. Our good days and our bad. Which is why we do not want to censor. When you listen to posts from Joshua or others, please do so with an open mind, but more importantly with an open heart. We must open up and face our struggles, and share them.

When we are living in pain, it is the most important time to do exactly this. We must not feel embarrassed, we must not feel shame or less than.  We can learn from other people's emotions. What they have to say at a specific time because of what they are dealing with in their own life. Throwing away the curtain that separates us.  Revealing the pain and the joys in every individual. As we have recently talked with Joshua, he has allowed us to take the freedom to speak about anything and everything, even addressing his life and his opinions. As the twelve of us on this team know him personally, we have seen the decline in his health.  It has been quite dramatic as well as traumatic.  We ask you to please not misinterpret.

 As of yesterday, Joshua had stated he wants everyone to feel  free to express their emotions that our hearts are always the same, but our emotions are so fragile and in order to have a cause and effect, a resolution, we must open up and reveal ourselves.  When we do this, we truly are opening our hearts.  We must learn from each other, but to do so we must look within ourselves and learn about ourselves first. Lastly, even in Joshua's sickness, there's always a purpose in what he says and does. He does not expect it to be understood or come to fruition overnight.  As each story, each statement will come together. He understands it may take years. But knows that it is worth it. He understands we must have patience and grace.  From movies to music, to great reads, down to the bible, we must patiently go through to understand, to not take out of context, as we promise you, everything will come together. Joshua often states that we never forget what is important to us.  But does not understand how we can forget what is important to someone else.  Ultimately, that everyone is important.  Thank you and God Bless.

Story of Joshua

As stories have been posted about Joshua and several others, the story specifically about the creator of this page, Joshua Jet Vaughan, have not been in chronological order.  As we wanted to start from the beginning of his life and work up to current day, many different changes have occurred. As the time has passed throughout his life, the struggles and triumphs have been gapped and rearranged. Though we have posted some current stories, and some of his horrible sufferings, we had started to intertwine some of his joys, keeping a balance to the page. As far as the order of his life, we are just into his high school years. Though the story still may vary, as far as the order, we are going to do our best, again, to put them in order of time line, so they are not to be as sporadic.  However, there will be some going back and forth.

As Joshua had been in a coma as of recently and is just currently out of the hospital, we have been taking this time to reformulate, add additional pages via Twitter etc, and also to focus on other's stories as well. Ultimately the goal is still the same. To share the stories of others and help those in need. As we will be constantly revamping the Twitter page, Face book page, and starting the website for The Greatest Stories Ever Told, there are only 12 of us to do so.  So occasionally we will be trying to fill the void by sharing all different types of posts.  We hope to also inspire you through the people who have made it through their hardships and tragedies into success, that have made this world a better place.

But we believe that this story of our founder, Joshua, is the greatest inspiration of all. As he is still fighting and still bringing joy to this world and helping others, even while death is facing him.  As our prayers and love go out to all, we ask that you do the same for Joshua and his beautiful wife Anna.How we all look forward to the day and rejoice when his health is restored.  For he is the an that we aspire to, that we follow.  He is our leader.  We aspire to the love that his wife and he share.  And as we have recently spoken to him, he feels very blessed for the new friends that his wife Anna, and he has made simply through social media.  Proving that there are wonderful people that bring happiness, but more importantly joy into other people's lives. Joshua leads through conviction, but he also leads by following.  As it has taken many years for the GSET team to understand what this means.  The more we reveal of his life, it is not for pity's sake, Just as we hope that his story inspires others.  He has spoken often how others have inspired him.  As we have stated before, there is no man that has gone through more terror and horror in a lifetime than Joshua.  But the point is to show what we are capable of achieving while enduring these unbelievable circumstances.  And though we pray for the day that Joshua will shine that will be the day that we all shine together.So please share with your friends. And take part in this terrifying, yet beautiful endeavor as we can truly see the life and hearts of others. And of the man Joshua

As we have recently spoken with Joshua, occasionally he has his own comments. We want to make it very clear that sometimes the posts are taken down and re-editted according to his wishes Though he does not censor himself, his health issues such as his brain tumor affect his cognitive abilities. Yet this is ultimately up to him. He has shared some very intimate details which has shared of his life with his wife Anna Bella. Though he had stated, it was through much debate, both his wife and himself had realized by showing that we all make mistakes and we must learn to forgive and work through them, not giving up.  As is the truest and purest example of love.

Occasionally he shares some of the problems that he sees in the world today.  As Joshua's reason for doing so is believing that he can make a change. He often points out flaws of the system of social media, of the way people treat others and we believe in this. As he is clearly stated his flaws and is willing to accept constructive criticism at any time. As he stands in conviction with this point, we can not change anything if we are not willing to listen and if we do not listen we are incapable of learning. And we must look beyond ourselves to something that is larger than all of us. To open our eyes, our ears, but more importantly our hearts.

So many are easily offended. But those are the people who are the most offensive.  So let's join together and tell our stories.  There is no shame in admitting that we are wrong and imperfect.   When we realize this within ourselves we will finally be able to accept within ourselves and with others. And again, in the words of Joshua (No matter who we are or how old we are, there is guidance that  was needed. SO we must plant a seed and continue to tend to until it blossoms on it's own And as that continues to happen the perfect circle will be formed as of now we are capable to do for others as we have done for ourselves.  And that is love.. Obviously, the reoccurring theme of this page is love.  This will never change.  When the day comes that this is not reoccurring but just is a way of life, then this page will no longer be needed for our purpose has been reached.  But until that day comes, tread lightly for it is a long journey, but that journey; which is love, brought to fruition.

GSET Mission Statement

We are currently in the works to unite all people, all voices.  Setting up multiple pages via Twitter, Facebook, and a website.  One of our many goals is to connect all bloggers. Giving people a united platform, forum, and the voice that is so rightly deserved.  All talents, all gifts, all sorrows, all joy, all people we must share. Taking the importance out of the word media and putting it back into the word social.  So many have something to say or are in much need and need help so. An example is linking multiple sites to our page/pages.  An example is to use Twitter for others to advertise their blogs through tweets. We welcome all. We go by the motto a follow for a follow. Eventually connecting tens of millions of people. In our minds and Joshua's vision, to connect everyone into the source of our power: Love through each other. We do not want people to censor themselves as we all have passions and all have a purpose. Though anything of a sensitive nature, derogatory, racist, hate, pornographic, etc, we will not allow to be linked.  And will not share.  We are here for people to tell their story.  To allow the power to lie within themselves.  To unite each other as we all want and need to be heard. There are great things we can learn and use media/ social media for. But as individuals, we must remember that we are responsible for ourselves and each other.  As through mass media, so many things become tainted and watered down.  There are great mass media sources that help people create awareness and education.  But an individual's voice that becomes united through caring, and always love, is reachable, again, it is deserved and we will attain this by joining together hand in hand, not allowing for degradation, segregation, or oppression.  In simple terms, we will migrate, immigrate, but never regulate.  so that we are not individuals of love or a nation of love, but a world of love.  As this will be happening soon, it is all of our responsibility to join in.  The more you give others a chance to have a voice, the more your voice will be heard. And it is a constant, infinite, circle that can not be stopped.  So please share with us, share for us, as it is our mission to do this for every person.  Let's share our spirit as we all have the same one. The Story of Phanice ~A Cry For Help

Names have been changed to protect the family.


Phanice came from a family of five.  Her parents are peasant farmers from Western Kenya and One of her brothers is the sole financial support of her whole family; her parents, her siblings, his own family as he is married.  Her husband, J, is the first born son in a family of seven, and he is also the only working man in his family as well.  He supports his parents, and siblings.

Phanice and J have three beautiful children together.  Two daughters, R and E, and a 10 month old son.  J is a primary school teacher.  The income for teachers in Kenya even is more meager than here in the United States.  It is not enough to support their family, especially having to support J's parents and siblings as well.  They own a small piece of land that they garden for their own use, and Phanice sells any extra to supplement their income.  Their eldest daughter R is in form 3 which is the equivalency of the 11th grade in the United States.  She is only 15 years old, advanced and very intelligent, kind and sweet. She is eager to learn and excells at it.  Their second daughter, E, is 12 years old and passed her primary exams with flying colors, but has not been able to join high school because their familie's small income is not enough to pay they school fees.  Something that we take for granted here in the United States, is a free education.  To even provide enough for food, clothes and medication for their middle child who has chronic illness has been a struggle and it has forced them to take out loans just to get by.  And now they can not afford to send their two intelligent and kind hearted daughters to school. It is about $984 USD per year for high school, and $884 USD for their daughter in primary school and this is for a public eduation.  Nothing compared to the average $10,000 per year for a private school tuition in the United States.  They are already in the middle of the term for school, and have missed so much of their lessons, that they would have to catch up very rapidly just to stay with their class.


Most people in Kenya do not finish a formal education.  The low salaries paid to workers and high school tuition fees makes it difficult to impossible to go to school.   Most of the people in Phanice's community live in poverty, fighting just to find access to clean water.  A lack of education, poor farming methods and poor roads causes an economic downfall, making it impossible for the people to ever get up, much less get ahead.  Local farmers are forced to sell their products at or below cost because of poor roads making it impossible to transport to a higher paying market.  Due to HIV/AIDS, poor health facilities and a high unemployment rate, there are many orphans left to survive on their own.  The weather in Kenya affects food production.  Their dry weather drives high fuel and power costs affecting all aspects of commerce, from manufacturing, raising prices in the market, corruption, tribalism and insecurity.  Land Title Deeds are hard to get and affects the borrowing capacity of families and businesses who can use the titles as collateral.
Kenyan laws make it difficult to find funding from other countries.  They have a bill waiting to be passed that limits foreign funding to 15% of their total annual budget.  They have local and national taxes that all residents have to pay.  Education is supposed to be paid by the government in Kenya, but broken promises and teacher strikes lead to the financial burden of tuition for many Kenyan students.  Teachers will often go on strike, they will reach a negotiation with the government, but the new agreement will not be honored past the first payment.  Their annual stipends in their schools are as low as $12 USD per student, not even enough to cover the cost of supplies for only the classroom, much less that of the students.  During long teacher's strikes often times the elder students will strive to teach the younger.  Teachers salaries are as low as $190 USD per month and does not include any medical coverage or any of the benefits that teachers are accustomed to here in the United States.

Phanice and her family have dreams.  She dreams of a better education for her children.  For them to have a college education, a brighter future and easier life.  She dreams of acquiring land to start a large scale commerical farm that will enable her to export her produce and employ her fellow Kenyans providing much needed economic growth to her area, to help her fellow Kenyans to prosper.  She dreams of having a successful business in cell phones and accessories, or possibly cosmetics.  Her husband is a teacher with a dream of starting his own school.  With a passion for the orphans who are left all alone, with no one to pay their school fees or to even provide a meal.  As the government pays teachers very little, he dreams of having his own school where he can help even the helpless to get in education and change the lives of the people in their community for a better future.

From the GSET Team~Joshua's Diagnoses

As of now we have been notified of Joshua's current diagnoses.  He has a cancerous brain tumor, Cushing's Disease, Addison's Disease, with two tumors on his adrenal glands, several tumors within his internal organs, one being cancerous on his hip that has metastasized.  All three layers of his stomach muscles are herniated/torn. Several torn muscles, ligaments and tendons, a multitude of bone spurs and calcium deposits. Several fractures in his hand, including a broken thumb.  Both carotid arteries are clogged. Sciatica. Embolisms throughout his entire body. Lyme's disease.  Compression in his spine that has fused several vertebrae together that has grown into a sharp peak in between his shoulder blades. Ulcerative colitis. Several discs and joints that are slipped and out of place.  Cerebral edema. An imbalance in the occipital fluid. Severe swelling and inflammation. A slightly torn urethra tube. Swollen glands. A slight tear in the lining of his heart. A hole in his esophagus. Electrolyte imbalance. Intractable Pain. Some of his blood work showing that his white blood cell count is over 120,000.  And his red cell is lower double digits. And several other minor problems, considering these other diagnoses. He has lived his life in health. Not drinking, never doing drugs. Occasionally enjoying a cigar, maybe even a cigarette. The doctors are astounded, not only that he is alive, but that he is functioning in any way at all. There's no explanation of why he has been stricken with these illnesses let alone alive; most men could not survive one. And he has been without treatment for over 99% of these for many years. And of course he is seriously malnourished and dehydrated.  Some of the damage in his body is so bad that it has twisted his muscles, ligaments, tendons and even his skin.  This man deserves healing and never to be sick again a day in his life.  We are all in shock that he has been doing his best to live his life when he should have been dead years ago.

We wanted to post this, not only for Joshua, but for the fact that people misunderstand that there are many who are living with struggles, hardships, disease, and they could be our neighbor. And people must be made aware of this.  In the year 2015, this should not be going on.  Many people get sick, but no one should have to suffer. No one should have to be as strong as Joshua is. To see these diagnoses on a piece of paper that was faxed over to our team from his wife, obviously was so much more detailed, None the less it is shocking. All anyone ever sees from Joshua is a smile or hears is encouragement, or feels love from him. We don't know what the meaning of this is.  But from our hearts, here at the GSET team, we must believe there is a purpose. We knew he was suffering, but had no idea, truly, how torturous this must be for him. And how he has any sanity left at all.  And, as told to us from his wife Anna Bella, they have no idea where to start, or what to do. Almost every surgery would have to be done at the same time.  They're all connected. It's just unbelievable and surreal.  We think it's time that people start reaching out to this man.  Though he may not speak of it, obviously he needs it, just as we all do.  Every person that is suffering, every person that feels alone, it is our responsibility to let them know that they are loved.  As Joshua always says, For we are our brother's keeper.  Let's start with Joshua and reach out to everyone and take care of each other in love.  We must help others so that this injustice does not happen. Because what this shows is that it doesn't matter how much money you have, your title, your race, that this can happen to anyone. How many people are suffering with just one of these things and are going untreated, for any reason.  Yet there is no reason, in the year 2015, for this to be happening. It's time that people start reaching out, for those who have taken an oath to help others, need to start doing their job. Every life is precious. Everyone deserves health.  But no matter if the disease is curable or not, everyone deserves proper treatment.  We all have the same needs. Whether you are starving physically, emotionally or spiritually, it's time to step up and do more.  for many, as it is for Joshua, this is life or death.  But there is no need for people to suffer and have no peace. As Joshua always says, The meaning of life is giving everyone's life meaning. A lot of people can look at this situation and other situations somewhat like this and it gives them a reason to not believe in God, but for the fact that Joshua is still alive and doing what he's doing, how can you not believe? And when you don't, you're depriving a person of their purpose. and that all things happen by chance in people's lives are meaningless, living and dying in vain.  We here at the GSET team don't understand any of this.  But we can not accept that this is all there is to be had.  We hope that God hears our prayers and heals this man.  If his dies, it would be of no consequence as it would turn more people away from the Lord, but being healed by the hand of God or him getting the surgeries and they are successful, , the story of this alone would change the world. Again, giving life meaning and purpose and most of all hope.
